Fire at the old station house

ON THE afternoon of June 3, shortly before 5:00pm, the abandoned station house behind the old Reclamation Group went up in flames.

According to a source at the scene, the veld in that area had been burning throughout the day, but not near the building itself.

It is suspected that the building was set alight in order to gain easier access to items and fixtures which could be stolen and then sold for scrap metal, such as door and window frames, although this is not certain.

Due to a swift response from the Community Policing Forum and the Fire Department, the blaze was expeditiously extinguished and no further damage was incurred.
