What happened to our beautiful town?

Our town is fast becoming a ghost town. Let us change this

The once rated ‘most beautiful and gem of the Midlands’, what happened to all that? This town had flowers at almost every corner, now all you see is bush and black-jacks.

We once had the best drinkable water but today we cannot boast about that. In the past people who visited our town went back with litres of our water because of its quality.
What happened to the tourists that came to the museum? Mrs Adams who was once the Curator there lectured a different school every week, giving students the insight to the rich history of the town. When she left; the museum left with her. All that is left is a stone building, full of ghosts.

The Caravan Park was once run by me and it attracted so many locals, tourists and contractors. Since I left, not one person has ever booked that place. The once beautiful park at the bottom of Lorne Street, where every married couple went to take their wedding photos, is now a dump. What happened to the best roads? Today all you see are potholes so deep you can hide a giraffe in them.

What happened to the trade fair we had every year? This, I would love to see again for ‘the sake of our children.’ What happened to the soccer games we watched every weekend at Lambert Park? It is now election time. I want to appeal to the community of Umtshezi that whatever the outcome, let us pull together to restore the pride and beauty of our town to its former glory.

It is not so much the political party in charge that messed up our town; it is the people who were entrusted by us to do a good job that failed dismally. It is now time for us to put the right people in place, because believe me, the right people are there. We just have to do the right thing.

Our town is fast becoming a ghost town. Let us change this. This council stood and boasted about 16 years of delivery, I want to ask them what delivery they are talking about when the town is so rotten.

To me all they delivered was 16 years of a disgrace. We all know of the residents in this town that this council has failed.
