Ladysmith hospital has medicine shortages

This includes a shortage of ARVs

A shocking revelation by a KZN doctor that Ladysmith Provincial Hospital has little to no painkillers has made national news.

According to DA MPL Dr Imraan Keeka, there were patients without pain medication, and the hospital did not have stocks of morphine and pethidine when he visited the hospital on Tuesday.

In a media statement, he stressed that he had visited the hospital on Tuesday last week, where he discovered that their drug hall was virtually empty. The hospital also had an incredibly long queue at the pharmacy.

“People arrive at the hospital as early as 5.30am and at 12pm are still waiting for their medicines.” This included a shortage of ARVs. Other clinics and hospitals in KZN have run low of basic drugs like paracetamol…
