A new competitive bowling league is set to pit Newcastle’s top eight bowlers against one another.

The 2015 Century Place Carpet Bowls “Top 8 Challenge” invites bowlers to join the new league, as it pits social, competitive, amateur and professional bowlers against each other.

Registration for the league will close on December 31,2014 and the league will officially begin on January 2 2015.

The league will continue until September 30, when the top eight bowlers of the league will face off against one another.

Points for a spot on the top eight bowlers line-up will be earned during the course of the year, through both social, and competitive games, as long as there are seven ends playing during the course of the match.

Any form of pairings will be applicable during the tournament, so large groups, playing singles, doubles, trips or fours are all welcome.

Point allocation for the league is as follows: Attendance, one point; Draw/Peel, two points; win, five points.

There is an annual subscription fee of R200 for Open players, R100 for Pensioners, and R50 for Scholars. Each game will further cost a green fee of R2.

The overall winner of the competition will win a staggering R4 000.
