Pedestrian bridge not safe to cross?

Some of the barriers are not there at all, while others are broken and dangling off the structure

Many pedestrians fear for their life as they walk on the Cemetery Road pedestrian bridge.

The barrier poles on both sides of the structure are virtually non-existent, so someone could easily fall off into the river below.

Some of the barriers are not there at all, while others are broken and dangling off the structure. This has been the situation for months now and nothing is being done about it. Being hidden away by overgrown grass, motorists sometimes can’t see the bridge as they pass by, but many pedestrians use it.

“Any bridge should be safe, so it should be a top priority for the municipality to fix it for the community. I use this bridge every day and fear that one day a little child is going to fall off and get seriously hurt,” said a concerned pedestrian.

“It’s also very dangerous at night, as a criminal could easily attack and throw someone off,” added the pedestrian.

At the time of going to press, the municipality had not commented on the matter.
