Golf balls nearest the Easter Bunny, not the pin

Thanks to Steve Dixon for putting together this fun-filled golfing event which will certainly become an annual feature on the Country Club’s calendar

The Easter Saturday golf competition, sponsored by Country Collections, was intended to be very different and it certainly was. The format of play was Four-Ball Better-Ball Stableford, only that each golfer had a different partner for six holes.

Trying to explain this format and how the score-card had to be completed was an absolute nightmare, but eventually everyone was clear on the “rule” and that the score per hole was awarded to the individual in the end. Also, there were no ‘Nearest the Pin’ prizes, but rather ‘Nearest the Easter Bunny’ prizes.

All in all, it proved to be great fun and there were some really good scores returned at the end of play. Winner of the event on a score of 47 points was Phillip Boardman, followed closely by Mark de Pindray with 46 points and many more good scores after that.

‘Nearest the Easter Bunny’ winners were John Elworthy and Jan Pretorius. Aurette Boardman won the prize for the ‘Best Lady’ golfer.
Four golfers carded two-clubs.

After prize-giving, many stayed for the cowboy T-bone steak supper which took place in the open on a superb evening. The supper was delicious and the good fun and fellowship made the day a great success.

Gavin Livingston and Aurette Boardman played a Mixed Pairs match on Saturday afternoon against Kurt Swoboda and Veronika Schuler. This turned out to be a real cliffhanger, with Kurt scoring two points with the last bowl of the match to win by one point.

This Saturday is the Cas Venter Memorial Monthly Mug. Sunday is scheduled to be a full-house of activity at the club, with the Ladysmith vs Harrismith Challenge at home and the Livingston Lawnmower Services Trips which is likely to attract a full green of 14 teams.
