Hijackers nabbed by Van Reenen police

The man was robbed at gunpoint of his vehicle, a Toyota Run X

Two suspected hijackers were arrested and appeared in court yesterday (Monday) after a Besters resident was robbed at gunpoint of his vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning.

It was just after midnight on Saturday when the resident arrived home. As he was getting out of his vehicle, he was surprised by two men, one of whom had a firearm. The man was robbed of his vehicle, a Toyota Run X.

The suspects fled in the stolen vehicle.

Police were contacted and the surrounding police stations were asked to be on the lookout for the Run X. A case docket was opened for further investigation.

At about 7am, Van Reenen police officers came across the vehicle while searching along the Sandspruit gravel road. As they approached, they noticed two men make a run for it. They gave chase and arrested one of them.

A search of the area resulted in the arrest of another suspect.

The suspects, aged 23 and 24, appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of armed robbery.
