Water cuts could be imminent for Newcastle

If water usage is abused during the maintenance period, large areas of Newcastle could be without running water.

After a spate of infrastructure related issues which caused water supply to be cut off to many areas, the Newcastle Municipality has issued a statement regarding imminent and much needed maintenance work on the reticulation system.

On Tuesday, October 21, a service team will be conducting maintenance and upgrades on many pipes in and around the Newcastle area.

From 8am to 5pm, no water will be pumped from the Ngagane plant, Braakfontein, and the Hilldrop reservoirs.

This does not mean residents will be without water. However, they have been advised to use water sparingly.

Abuse of water during this time, will result in water shortages across Newcastle.

According to the statement, the reservoirs will be filled before the allocated time, and the municipality does not anticipate this resulting in water outages.

This notice has been issued as a precautionary measure, to ensure residents are well informed should there be a water shortage.
