Update: Brutal housebreaking attack

The husband was strangled to death in the passageway

Three people were attacked this morning (Monday) during a housebreaking in Kandahar Avenue, leading to the death of an elderly man.

A husband and wife, together with their domestic worker, were brutally attacked in their home after 3 young men are believed to have entered the premises through the backyard.

The intruders tied up the elderly woman and domestic worker, and left them in a room. The husband was strangled to death in the passageway, his mouth and neck bound with socks.

The robbers then ransacked the house, taking electrical appliances and other valuables before fleeing on foot.

Neighbours were alerted by the wife’s cries for help. Being concerned, they went to investigate and found the woman and domestic worker tied up.

Police were immediately alerted. The Tactical Response Team ( TRT), Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit (CIG), Dog Unit (K9), Public Safety and Sharaj Ambulance Services responded.

The husband was declared dead at the scene. His wife also showed signs of strangulation, and sustained broken limbs. The domestic worker appeared to be unharmed, but was traumatised by the ordeal.

The names of the victims are known to the Ladysmith Gazette, but are being withheld out of respect for the family.

Police are currently conducting a manhunt for the 3 suspects.
