On May 30 Glencoe Primary held their Fun Day.
There were lots of activities and things to eat and drink to put a smile on any face.
Steven Brown hosted the school’s own version of the Soccer World Cup. The winner took all in the six-a-side tournament.
There were sixteen teams that took part, and in the end it came down to Italy versus Spain. Brazil fell out in the first round, and it Italy took the cup. A sign of things to come perhaps…? Well done to the boys of the winning team: Mbuso Sithole, Sihle Dlamini, Mpilo Ndaba, Kwanele Hlongwane, Lwazi Dlame and Philasande Sithole.
Glencoe Primary was also entertained by Mario the Magician on the day. Everyone enjoyed the show and was amazed by the illusions presented by the magician.
Mini netball
Mini netball had a busy season. There was a very big group of U/7 players to choose a team from. The U/8 and U/9 girls knew what it was all about, and quickly advanced to a good playing status. Their first games were home games against Monument of Ladysmith. The U/9 girls won 10-3. Their first away games were at Utrecht where children played three to four games each. The U/7 team lost two and drew one; the U/8s and u/9s drew one lost one and won one.
They next played at Drakensberg School in Newcastle where once again the teams played three to four games each. The U/8 and U/9 girls went undefeated. The last matches were played at St Dominic’s in Newcastle, and again the girls did very well by only losing one match out of the six that were played. It was a good netball season and the children look forward to the next season!
Outstanding players were U/9 Sisanda Ngcobo (C) and Sinawo Xulu (WA); U/8 Mpilonhle Msimango (GK) and Aphelele Hadebe (GA).
