Fulfilled International Day of Older Persons celebration

Mr Ratan entertained guests with golden oldies. He is Estcourt's very own Mohammed Rafi

On Friday, December 4 Estcourt Senior Citizens Club members and guests gathered at the Forderville Primary School hall to commemorate the third annual International Day for Older Persons function.

“This year due to a lack of funds a shorter programme was planned,” said the Public Relations Officer Mrs Peerbhay. The crowd was thereafter entertained by members of the Estcourt Senior Citizens Club who performed a dance. All the club members who were born in December or January received lovely birthday gifts.

Mrs Peerbhay organised a game called Pick a Box and was surprised that none of the members went for the money. A range of great gifts were won by the members. Mr Ratan entertained guests with golden oldies. He is Estcourt’s very own Mohammed Rafi.

Thereafter members rendered a spiritual song. The event ended with an exercise and a braai was enjoyed by all attendees. The members would like to thank Ward Four Councillor Ugan Chetty for providing the braai packs and to those who sponsored gifts.

They further want to thank the community members and sponsors who supported the club throughout the year and helped make the event memorable. The Estcourt Senior Citizens Club will reopen on Wednesday, February 3.

Residents who are 60-years or older are welcome to join the club. Meetings are held every Wednesday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm at the Forderville Primary School hall. If you would like to join call the Chairperson Mrs Nandan on 036 352 3204 or the Public Relations Officer Mrs Peerbhay on 036 352 5186.
