UPDATE: K9 Unit investigates bomb threat at FNB

FNB staff and clients were swiftly evacuated, and the Newcastle SAPS K9 unit are currently sweeping the area

A short while ago, First National Bank on Scott Street was evacuated.

The evacuation was precipitated by a bomb threat. The Newcastle Advertiser received a call shortly after 1pm, the anonymous source claiming three men would enter the bank at around 2pm, carrying a bomb.

FNB staff and clients were swiftly evacuated, and the Newcastle SAPS K9 unit are currently sweeping the area inside the bank.

Branch Manager of FNB, Gerald Boyd, said: “It’s better to be safe than sorry. The safety of our customers and staff is high priority. Even it is has caused some inconvenience we feel it was important to ensure the safety of all involved.”
