Human bones unearthed in Weenen

The police arrived on Friday and removed some of the bones, which they will send for DNA testing

A startling discovery was made by residents in Weenen’s KwaMajola area on Tuesday evening.

Human bones were lying strewn on a gravel road that had been graded earlier in the day.

Perturbed community members called on Proportional Representation (PR) Councillor Kwanzakwakhe Vilakazi that night, requesting his guidance on what steps to take.

“The next morning I got to the site and spoke to the grader driver. I was told that the bones were buried on the road, which he was grading and this caused them to surface,” explained Mr Vilakazi.

He sought assistance from the local Induna and called on police to investigate. “The police arrived on Friday and removed some of the bones, which they will send for DNA testing.

Meanwhile, I am appealing to any family that might have buried their loved ones along this road in KwaMajola to come forward.

Currently the Sithole family suspect that it may be their family burial site, but they are unsure,” commented Mr Vilakazi.

He added that until then, they are awaiting the DNA test results to determine a way forward and called on government to assist once the bones are identified and bury them in a dignified manner.

These human bones were unearthed by a grader in KwaMajola on Tuesday.
