Winners of N3TC’s photographic competition announced

"N3TC was delighted with the substantial increase in the number of entries in the scholar category which indicates that young, budding talents are taking up photography as a hobby and possibly as a career

Entries into the annual N3TC Photographic Competition nearly doubled this year with the introduction of an online entry facility making it easier for both amateur and professional photographers to share their captured moments.

“N3TC was delighted with the substantial increase in the number of entries in the scholar category which indicates that young, budding talents are taking up photography as a hobby and possibly as a career. The winning photographer in this category also receives a cash prize for their school to encourage more aspiring photographers to participate,” says Victoria Greeff, N3TC Marketing Officer.

Whilst the N3TC Photographic Competition promotes photography as an art form, it aims to give exposure to the destinations through which the N3 Toll Route meanders, and the magnificence of the diverse scenery, rich culture, heritage, and interesting people. The N3 Toll Route, managed by N3TC, starts at Cedara in KwaZulu-Natal and ends at Heidelberg in Gauteng. This 415km route traverses four provinces namely, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

“This year’s entries displayed intriguing photographic skill and creativity, while showcasing the spectacular, diverse and scenic landscapes of the route, giving judges a testing time selecting the winners,” says Greeff.

Following much deliberation amongst the panel of judges, David Mullin, was announced as the overall winner of the 2015 N3TC Photographic Competition for his entry in the Sports and Recreation category – Feeling the Passion – which depicts children enjoying the miniature steam train at Piggly Wiggly, near Lions River in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.

According to the judges, Mullin’s winning image encapsulated great use of natural lighting and composition. His photograph engages with the viewer and epitomises the perfect moment captured in time and appeals to the heart of family values. According to the judges, the perfect photo tells a story and evokes an emotion that stimulates the viewer’s imagination.
Photographers could enter any one of the following six categories, namely: Landscape; Sports and Recreation; Culture; Wildlife, Fauna and Flora; Altered Images and Scholar.

The 2015 judging panel included:
Andy Visser – N3TC Marketing Manager
Con Roux – Amateur Photographer
Victoria Greeff – N3TC Marketing Officer and Competition Administrator
Des van Tonder – Graphic Designer (designer of the N3TC 2016 Calendar)
Chris Townsend of CT Photographics – Professional Photographer
