Mixed emotions over black-out response

A blackout was experienced across a large area of Newcastle West last week Friday when a flashover damaged conductors.

The affected areas extended Newcastle residential areas and Central Business District.

The almost immediate response from municipal officials to address the matter was commended, but some comments on social media sites suggested the municipality was not keeping a close watch on technical matters.

Quick thinking on the part of the electricity department ensured power was restored quickly by redirecting some power from Signal Hill substation.

Director of the electricity department, Lindile Zincume, thanked residents for their patience during the blackout and apologised for the inconvenience it had caused.
