How many of you out there are appalled like I am at the state of the music scene in the world?Â
Music, like movies these days, seems to be manufactured to appease the brainless masses who want a quick fix of mindless entertainment. Movies are all slapstick comedies, cliched rom-coms, and action abominations where the supposed hero decimates an army single-handedly. In music, it’s all techno, dance and sickly-sweet pop ditties with either no lyrics or mind-numbing repetition of the same two lines!Â
What happened to the trailblazers of the 50s, 60s, 70s and yes, even the 80s and 90s? Elvis Presley took the blues and turned it into rock ‘n roll, making him the King. Then, to mention a few, you have The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix. Here you have musicians who gave their lives as they journeyed into uncharted territory, immortalising their music in the process. In the pop genre today, it’s all about money and pandering to the masses (sheep).
Sadly, nothing really stands out in the rock genre either, except for Norwegian black metal! Yes, you heard right. All hail the ‘Dark Power’ of bands such as Satyricon, Mayhem and Dimmu Borgir. Everything else sounds positively tame when compared to the ‘wall of sound’ these guys can deliver!Â
Anyway, all I can say is this… All those who doubt the authenticity of the true rockers out there, I have pity on you. You have no ‘belief’ and have totally lost the plot. If a rock musician is ‘true’, he / she will do anything except sell out and be fake for a few lousy bucks!Â
As Jim Morrison of The Doors said, “You think all the fans want is a house and two cars, but you’re wrong. What they really want is something SACRED. It’s not about money, fame and these desires you have. It’s about using the music to break on through!” Wise words from the Lizard King!Â
All hail true rock ‘n roll – the rest of you, shut up and stand aside!Â
