Police comment on businessman’s arrest
The owner of the premises took offence to the presence of the police officers at his premises and began to abuse the officers
On Sunday afternoon at about 18:00, Ladysmith Police responded to a complaint of assault.
The incident had allegedly taken place at a local butchery. On arriving at the premises, they attempted to make enquiries concerning the alleged assault incident.
The owner of the premises took offence to the presence of the police officers at his premises, and began to abuse the officers and interfere with their official duties. He was placed under arrest and appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Monday (2014-09-15), facing charges of crimen injuria.
The accused has since been granted bail and the case was remanded until 25 September 2014. It was established that an incident of assault had indeed taken place at the premises. The complainant in the case was employed at the premises at the time.
The assault case is being investigated by local detectives.
