78 and still cycling
His current ‘set of wheels’ is a Hercules bicycle that he has owned since 1959
When Dory Mungaroo travels from place to place, he prefers the whir of bicycle tyres over the rumble of a car’s engine. Dory has never owned an automobile, simply because his preferred mode of transport is a bicycle. He started cycling when he was just eight years old. He is now 78 years old and nothing has changed in this regard – he has been riding for 70 years!Dory has only ever owned three bicycles in all that time.
His current ‘set of wheels’ is a Hercules bicycle that he has owned since 1959.”It hasn’t let me down yet,” he smiles, patting the saddle. Dory remembers travelling to work on his bicycle in his younger days. Now in his late 70s, he still cycles every day without fail and says he will carry on until his body can’t take it anymore. His everyday travels include a trip to town and a visit to AK’s OK Grocer to see Mr AK Moola.
Dory has travelled throughout Northern Natal with his feet on the pedals and the freedom of the open road ahead. He says there’s nothing so natural and relaxing as pedalling down the road, not to mention that it keeps him young, fit and strong of heart.
