Lafta holds blessing prayer for new centre

On completion, the centre will function on a daily basis and will be open from morning till afternoon to all senior citizens

The Ladysmith Association for the Aged (Lafta) held a ‘Foundation Blessing’ prayer on Thursday at their new property in Dianthus Avenue.

This property was donated to Lafta by the municipality to build a centre for the aged. The first phase of the project is laying the foundation and then putting up the steel structure and the roof, which will be completed shortly.

According to Lafta, a centre for the aged is a project long overdue in Ladysmith. On its completion, the centre will function on a daily basis and will be open from morning till afternoon to all senior citizens in the community.

The institution will add value to senior citizens’ lives and also help them by teaching new skills. Meals will be provided, as well as activities such as arts and crafts, dance, music, singing, gardening and games.

Community leaders gave talks at the centre on the day. Guru Krishna Moorthy and Pastor Sajesh Kumar blessed the ground and conducted prayers.

The community of Ladysmith is asked to generously contribute towards the completion of the project. Lafta president Balan Naidoo wishes to thank current and previous members of the organisation and the public for their help thus far.
