Locals take on the Big Walk

Lots of fun and dancing at the finish line. What an awesome day it was

Sunday morning, for the Estcourt team going to the ECR Discovery Big Walk, started early. All eager and awaiting out taxi driver to fetch us at 4am. This was a very eager and happy group making the journey together.

We arrived at uShaka, got our goody bags, changed our shirts for the big walk T-shirts, numbers on and all rearing to go. With time to spare, we made our way through uShaka then off to the holding areas. Excitement was felt by all!

Families with babies in prams, others with their pet dogs, made for a good family day out. Some strolled up the promenade, sight-seeing as they walked, others power-walked, others ran, all having so much fun. ECR was with us the entire way, at intervals from the start in the holding areas with Zaba, to the start, enroute then at the finish.

Lots of fun and dancing at the finish line. What an awesome day it was. There were 33 000 walkers. 11 300 of them were the 10km walkers. The Durban Mayor took part in the 10km too. The crowds were spectacular, just to be one in that crowd was an experience on it’s own. So, Estcourt, if you haven’t taken part in the ECR big walk, next year is your chance. See more of you there.

So much hype and activity along the walk. Next year it will be a 20km for some of us.
