On Sunday, May 10 Estcourt police received a report of an accident, which took place in Mshayazafe at 3.30pm. Upon arrival at the scene of the accident, a male was found lying on the side of the road, being treated by paramedics.
It is alleged that the victim was walking with his brother when a taxi knocked him from behind. After the brother stopped the taxi, the driver allegedly exited the taxi and assaulted the victim’s brother before driving off.
The knocked down man was rushed to hospital after suffering internal injuries. The case was registered and an investigation resulted in the 26-year-old suspect being arrested. He appeared before the Estcourt Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 12.
