AfriForum to form branch in Newcastle

AfriForum branches provide community leaders with the opportunity to keep local governments accountable.

AfriForum has again announced plans to start a branch in Newcastle.

According to Chris Fourie, the Provincial Coordinator of AfriForum in KwaZulu-Natal, the branch would seek to tackle the following:

– safety issues,

– poor service delivery,

– municipal mismanagent, and

– environmental affairs.

AfriForum will give the community access to legal representation and specialists in the field of local government affairs.

“The new branch in Newcastle will give the community a platform to make their voices heard outside party politics and to ensure that their civil and community rights are respected,” said Mr Fourie.

“Unfortunately AfriForum cannot be present in every town to ensure that people’s rights are not violated. The way to accomplish this is to establish branches where local residents are trained and empowered to bring about real change in their communities. AfriForum branches provide community leaders with the opportunity to keep local governments accountable,” he continued.

AfriForum appeals to the community of Newcastle to join the organisation, so that a branch can be established.
