Update: ER24 paramedics involved in collision

After attending to an accident scene near the Utrecht turn-off, Jan-Henk van Vuuren and Myra van der Merwe headed back to Newcastle with a patient, when a car collided into the vehicle behind them

On Monday afternoon, an ER24 ambulance was involved in a collision on the N11.

After attending to an accident scene near the Utrecht turn-off, Jan-Henk van Vuuren and Myra van der Merwe headed back to Newcastle with a patient, when a car collided into the vehicle behind them, in turn causing the vehicle to collide into the ambulance.

The patient in the ambulance suffered only minor injuries and was taken over and transported to hospital by EMRS.

A Facebook post by Ms van der Merwe read: ‘Worst feeling ever when you see it coming and there is nothing you can do about it.’

Fortunately, both paramedics escaped without serious injury. The ambulance was badly damaged. Ms van der Merwe was also taken to hospital for a check-up, as she sustained a knee injury.
