According to sources, an off duty policeman and his family were trapped on the N11, after another vehicle hit their car from behind.

Er24 were en route to assist minutes after the report, although no injuries have been reported.

Sources have confirmed the man and his family are now mobile, driving towards Newcastle.

Motorists in the area are urged to drive carefully.
