‘Hey boet, these petrol prices are no joke!’

Since the beginning of the year, petrol has increased by 78 cents per litre in KZN.

Finding the humour in situations which are potentially financially disastrous, is quite difficult.

Residents of Newcastle who saw the sign in the photograph above, had mixed reactions. Some laughed while others just shook their heads and said “Near enough.”

The sign in question displays the current price per litre of diesel at a local garage. Someone with a sense of humour, swapped some digits around and instead of R13.21, the sign read R31.21 per litre.

Although this seems shocking, one motorist stated he wondered how long it would be before these ridiculous numbers would be a reality.

Since the beginning of the year, petrol has increased by 78 cents per litre in KZN, while the total tax on a litre is just over R3.

Fuel costs affect every facet of the modern day consumer’s pocket, as the cost of food and other essential services are forced to implement price hikes to create sustainable profits.

More recently, the South African National Taxi Association (SANTACO) announced an increase in taxi fares across the province. The masses of commuters making use of taxi services will also feel the punch.

When this reporter asked another motorist what he thought about the photograph, he said simply, “Hey boet, these petrol prices are no joke!”
