Major 99th milestone
Mrs Mocktar has no secret for long living, she just takes each day one at a time
Sumithra Mocktar celebrated her 99th birthday on January 13 and her family decided to organise her a birthday party.
On Sunday, February 1 a birthday celebration was held at the Forderville Primary School Hall. Â Mrs Mocktar was born on January 13, 1916 in Pomeroy near Greytown and is one of 12 siblings.
In 1941 Mrs Mocktar married Ramsoonder Mocktar. He passed on in 1997. Mrs Mocktar is a mother to three daughters, grandmother to six and a great grand mother to 11. Mrs Mocktar has no secret for long living, she just takes each day one at a time. During the speeches her grand children delivered, they openly shared what a strong, inspirational and caring woman Mrs Mocktar is.
“I am very happy to have my family and friends at my birthday celebration,” said the teary eyed birthday girl in her soft-spoken voice. Her family look forward to her turning 100 next year. Mrs Mocktar spends her time knitting, embroidery, bead work, gardening, cooking and that’s only when she’s not surrounded by friends at the senior citizens club.
