Extra decibels for Faizel

Finding his love for cars at a young age, over the years Faizel's passion has grown for speed.

For Faizel Cassim, cars are more than a hobby. It is a passion that has only grown over the years.

“I have been around cars all my life. My grandfather and father were mechanics and being around them, I developed a passion for cars.”

In 1992, Mr Cassim became involved in both racing cars and sound competitions.

“I have taken part in a few hundred comps in the years; winning about 20 sound competitions and taken the top three positions in approximately 100 racing events in the past four years.”

Mr Cassim said he enjoyed speed and seeing how fast he could make a car go before he actually broke it.

“I would encourage others to become involved in racing events, as it is a good sport to relieve stress and can be made a family event where the entire family can go out.”

Regarding sound systems, Mr Cassim said he slowly started doing up his car’s sound before he reached a competitive level.

“To get the extra decibel was the thing. Calibra is my favourite sound system and I actually used to be part of team storm Calibra.”

Mr Cassim is also an avid Oval Track racer and took part in his first race after a two year hiatus.

“I was first introduced to Oval Track about five years ago by Adam Khan, when he saw my passion for cars. After watching the first race, the bug bit me and I had to get involved.”

But while the need for speed was one of the reasons for participating in Oval Track racing, Mr Cassim said the spectators were the biggest reason.

For me, the highlight was taking part in the parade with my daughter and seeing the spectators cheer. I want to thank all the spectators over the years. They have made it worth it.”
