Gunshot victim dies in hospital

The man was allegedly approached by five men who attempted to rob him of his belongings

A  60-year-old man living in St Chad’s was shot twice on Thursday night while on his way home from a tavern in the area.

It was about 10pm when Mr Khumbulani  Sithole was allegedly approached by five men who attempted to rob him of his belongings. He tried to fight them off and was shot twice. The attackers fled on foot after the shooting.

Mr Sithole had just dropped off a relative / friend, Jabulani Nhlapho, who was with him minutes before the incident.

An EMRS ambulance responded and took the patient to hospital.

Police have not officially commented on the incident.

Update: Mr Sithole died this morning (Saturday) in hospital as a result of his injuries.

St Chad’s community members are in shock after the incident. Family member Mbali Nhlapho says that funeral arrangements are being made, and that family and friends are deeply saddened and traumatised by the sudden, tragic loss.

Police have not officially confirmed the death.
