Woman sentenced for R2m theft from business

A mother has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment after she was found guilty of stealing more than R2 million from her employer

A mother has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment after she was found guilty of stealing more than R2 million from her employer. On Tuesday, October 15 Paula Parsons was sentenced in the Estcourt Magistrates Court and taken to Newcastle Prison to serve the sentence.

Police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela says that in January 2014 the owner of Dragon Precision Engineering opened a case of theft. “A large amount of cash was stolen from his business at Dragon Engineering. The case was investigated by Estcourt detectives and three people were arrested,” said Captain Sokhela.

During their investigations, detectives found that various sums of money were stolen during different months.
After this was revealed, one of the accused, Mrs Parson, pleaded guilty to the charges. The theft charges against two other suspects were subsequently withdrawn. It was revealed that two million two hundred thousand rand was stolen. Captain Sokhela has praised the detectives responsible for the investigation, conviction and sentencing.

“The police management of Estcourt would like to congratulate the detectives on a job well done and we hope that a strong message will go out to the entire public to refrain from such acts, as their days are numbered,” he said.
