Colita’s CPF sub-forum take a stand against crime

Colita has been identified as a 'red spot' for crime, to erase that red spot is Colita's newly appointed CPF sub-forum Executive Committee

“There is no room for crime in Colita,” is what was highlighted during Monday’s, September 25, Community Police Forum (CPF) sub-forum Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting held at the community hall in Colita.
The meeting held was to focus on a way forward for Colita concerning crime. At this meeting it was revealed that Colita has been identified as a ‘red spot’ for crime.

To erase that red spot is Colita’s newly appointed CPF sub-forum Executive Committee.
Steven Shaw was elected the chairperson of Colita’s CPF EXCO.
Bradley Trollip is the Deputy Chairperson, Fabian Meyers is the Secretary and Wesley Lambert, the Treasurer.
Together with the additional members of Colita’s CPF EXCO, a subsidiary of CPF and SAPS, they aim to achieve a zero percent crime rate in the close knit community of Colita.

Open communication between Colita’s CPF and the police was encouraged at the meeting. It was also said that a good relationship should be maintained to achieve results.Captain JS Sokhela made it clear, that Colita’s CPF sub-forum EXCO was put in place to assist in preventing crime.
“Being police is very dangerous, you are our guides to monitor the time crimes in your area occur and how often does these crimes occur.

“You would then alert us with such information and we would act on it,” said Captain Sokhela firmly.
The drug problem in Colita has been labelled a major concern by the sub-forum executive committee of Colita. It was said that to sustain the habit, users have been breaking into homes to steal valuables and get money to purchase the drugs they use.

The team decided that the local dealers should be dealt with urgently, as they are the core issue.
Ward Four councillor Ugan Chetty asked the attendants to applaud Bradley Trollip the sub-forum’s Deputy Chairperson, as he conducted a private investigation, which was very fruitful, not only for the police but the community as well.

Mr Trollip made a stop at one of the many local pawnshops in town and came across a number of items, which have been stolen in Colita. He requested the names of the people who sold the items to the shopkeeper. The list of names given to him by the shopkeeper was handed over to Captain Sokhela during the closing of the meeting. Amongst the many items on the list of stolen items were things such as household essentials, hardware tools, and yard cleaning equipment. Colita’s CPF sub-forum team pleaded that matter be seen to urgently.

The recent house break-ins have shown that middle-aged females are being targeted. Colita’s CPF sub-forum Secretary, Fabian Meyers said that he sees potential in this community. The need for vigilant police patrols in the area was also discussed.

Chairperson of the motherbody CPF, Rev Nduli said that the community is poverty-stricken and that could be a reason as to why the youth are involved in criminal activities. Cllr Chetty noted the point raised by Rev Nduli. With the closing of the meeting, very wise and fruitful solutions have surfaced, which will soon be implemented.
