AK47 and revolver recovered in Weenen

An AK47 and a 38 special revolver were recovered in the troubled Vumbu area in Weenen on Thursday. 37-year-old Nkosiyazi Halington Majozi was arrested when the Pietermaritzburg Public Order Police and Tactical Response Teams from Port Shepstone and Pietermaritzburg found him in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker explains: “The members were patrolling in the Vumbu area when they identified a group of people suspected to be carrying firearms. When the group saw the police, they ran away and an AK47 was found abandoned. The police managed to apprehend a suspect who ran and entered one room.”

The suspect Nkosiyazi Halington Majozi was found in possession of a 38 special revolver and arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He appeared in the Weenen Magistrates Court on Friday 22. The case was remanded to this Friday, August 29. The suspect was released on a warning issued by the Magistrate. The recovered firearms have been sent for ballistics testing to ascertain if they were used in any other crime.
