Treverton College awards for second term achievers

Honours were awarded to two Grade 11s, Kate Armitage and Jeanne Botha who both played for the U18 KZN Inland team

At a special Treverton College assembly, the achievements of learners in many fields were recognised by awards being made.
These range from the prestigious and coveted Honours award and the privilege of wearing a white honours blazer to colours, half-colours and team awards. Outstanding achievements by juniors are recognised by the Laurel award. Girls’ hockey is played at a competitive level throughout the second term against other Midlands schools, often with much larger enrolments than co-ed Treverton. Honours were awarded to two Grade 11s, Kate Armitage and Jeanne Botha who both played for the U18 KZN Inland team.
Grade nine all-round sportswoman, Bophelo Seoe who has represented the province at athletics, soccer and hockey, was selected this year, for the U16 KZN Inland Hockey team, and was rewarded with a Laurel award.
Three players Jenna Malcolm, Nondumisa Zuma and Ayanda Tshuma were awarded colours for the sport. There were also half-colours and team awards for the sport.
Boys hockey players received half colours and team awards. Half colours went to Timothy Blaker, Don Paterson, Luke Richardson, Devon O’ Brien and Brent Kennard.
Netball has only been an official school sport for two years but has already enjoyed success at an inter-school level. Team awards went to six players, and Keshia Smith was the first recipient of colours for the sport. Keshia was selected to play for the uMgungundlovu regional team.
Treverton 1st XV rugby team have enjoyed a successful season. He highlight was their win over Weston Agricultural College for the Dowker Trophy in the Classic Clashes match. All-round sportsman grade 12 Tristan Pickering who was selected for the KZN U18 Academy Country Districts team received Honours.
Teammates and competent players Struan Cowie and Lungani Gumede, who were selected for Midlands, were awarded colours for the game. Half Colours were awarded to country district players, first-team captain Khalipha Ngwenya, Rylin Hennig, Timothy Blaker and Luke Richardson. Team awards were also made.
Beyond the sports fields there was also acknowledgment of diversified achievements. Debating colours was awarded to Shannon Freeman, team awards were made to Megan Ramsden, Peta Adalis, Catherine Meyer and Samantha Shawe and Conor Mc Callum received a certificate of Merit.
Drama, annual school productions and the theatre techniques play an important role throughout the school year. Colours for drama were awarded to Darren Usher-Jones and Carley Sclanders and half-colours to Lungani Gumede, while Jonathan Ogden received honours for theatre.
Girls who spend many hours developing different dance techniques were also recognised; Kristen Hulley received Half Colours and Carley Sclanders a team award. Mpumelelo Ngobese received half colours for music.
