Robbed while going to the bank

Police advise businesses to exercise safety precautions when doing banking

An employee at a local business was robbed while on her way to the bank recently.

It is alleged that she was robbed of a large amount of cash by two suspects at the entrance to a shopping mall.  It is alleged that the suspects sprayed a substance into her face before making off with the cash she was carrying. A case of robbery is under investigation by Ladysmith police.

In the  interests of safety, police advise businesses to exercise safety precautions when doing banking.  If large amounts of cash need to be moved, engage the services of a cash-in-transit company. Otherwise, send more than one employee to do the banking. A group of two to three people is less of an easy target than a single individual. Vary your banking times and route regularly.

Do regular security vetting on your personnel to ensure that the security of your business has not been compromised by criminal elements. Lastly, do not make it obvious that you are carrying around a large amount of cash by displaying either the cash or the bank bags.
