Learners inspired by building

They came up with creative designs for a house with a floor area of 120m².

Hamilton Preparatory School’s grade 4 class were inspired by the building taking place at the school and have embarked on their own housing design project.

They came up with creative designs for a house with a floor area of 120m².

Thereafter, they visited the local Build It to establish the cost of certain building materials so they could calculate the cost of flooring, paint, windows and doors.
This exercise enabled them to see the relevance of mathematics in everyday life while at the same time revising much of the work they have covered this year, including area, perimeter, cost and ratio.
The school would like to extend a big thank you to John Fourie and the staff at Build It for their warm reception and helpfulness.
