More Covid-19 cases confirmed at Dannhauser Municipality

KZN Premier warns that the Covid-19 storm has hit the province, with the Dannhauser area listed as a hotspot area

The Dannhauser Municipality has been hit by a second wave of Covid-19 cases at the institution.

The municipality was closed in June after an official tested positive.

Tests were done on fellow staff members who could have come into contact with the infected employee. Two other employees also tested positive, bringing the total to three.

However, following another outbreak at the premises, the total number of confirmed cases at the Municipality is now 10. The offices were deep cleaned once more and reopened.

This past weekend, KZN Premier, Sihle Zikalala, mentioned the Dannhauser area as a hotspot for Covid-19. In an address to the media, the Premier highlighted that Durnacol and Shepstone Lake were both identified as hotspot areas. Other hotspot areas in the Amajuba District included Osizweni and Madadeni.

“The storm is here and can be seen through the unprecedented number of infections. It requires us to, more than ever before, be more vigilant and adhere to protocols. We hope that even those few doubting Thomases who are in denial can now see that Covid-19 is here, it is real and it is deadly. It is therefore time to change our behaviour,” the Premier added.

As of Monday, July 27, KZN had 64,061 positive cases, of which 39,084 were still active. The Amajuba District, under which Dannhauser falls, has 3412 active cases and 19 deaths. Since the beginning of July, Amajuba District has been receiving a median of 862 cases daily (range 15-248 cases).
