Aardklop National Arts Festival

Dundee-born Shenaz Mahomed is making impressive waves in the art world – picking up several national awards, taking part in numerous exhibitions and being invited to an artist residency in France.

As the 28-year-old daughter of Sadeck Ebrahim Mahomed and Tauheeda Mahomed of Dundee, Shenaz is currently the Curatorial Assistant and Logistics Manager at the Javett Art Centre at the University of Pretoria. She obtained both her BA degree (2014) and MA degree (2019) in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria.

Her Masters dissertation centres around what Islamic Art means in the 21st century and is titled ‘Islamic artists: inter-textuality, text and image in the works of selected contemporaries and their artistic practice of duality’. Shenaz has also completed a body of work for her Masters exhibition, entitled ‘SANHA approved’.

She has participated in group shows at the Aardklop National Arts Festival in 2017 and 2018. She has also been part of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (2017), Innibos Art Festival (2017) and National Arts Festival (2018).
In April last year, Shenaz was selected to go on a three-week artist residency at the Mas Des Graviers vineyard in the South of France.
