Mr Bester issues friendly challenge to councillors

Mr Bester believes councillors should follow the President's example

FC Bester, chairman of the Endumeni Residents’ Association, has issued a ‘friendly challenge’ to local councillors to donate 30 percent of their monthly salaries to local charities.
“President, Cyril Ramaphosa took the lead in announcing that he, Cabinet Ministers and Provincial MECs would be donating 30 percent of their salaries to the Solidarity Fund, set up to assist small businesses in the country which have been badly hit by the lockdown – now extended to April 30.”
The President announced the lockdown extension as the country continues to offset the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Bester said councillors should follow the President’s example. Asked what he would be doing to assist in the crisis, Mr Bester said he would be encouraging local businesses and organisations to set up a food ‘bank’, to ensure the most vulnerable residents of the Endumeni district were not neglected during the lockdown.
“I will be asking for the donation of basic foodstuffs to a central point, from where those permitted to work during the lockdown will be able to distribute to the needy. This is the time to set politics aside and take up the harness and with faith, fight this pandemic. I know our town will pull together.”
He said he would present more details of the food bank idea once he has met with relevant stakeholders.
