Clinic staff at forefront of fight against pandemic

Staff are doing all they can to assist as many as they can, during the difficult period of lockdown.

Like all medical and security services personnel, staff at local clinics find themselves at the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Staff at the Empathe Clinic, adjacent to the municipal Library, have been hard at work during the lockdown period, seeing to the health of residents. The clinic operates from 7.30am to 6pm from Mondays to Thursdays and until 4.30pm on Fridays, and from 8am to 2pm on Saturdays.

Clinic head, Sister TG Myaka said staff see between 125 and 150 patients a day.

“We also have two outside field task teams. One team operates in the rural areas and visit farms, to assist patients with health issues. The second group goes out to schools, when these are open, to ensure the health needs of learners. Each comprises of about 40 members.”

Clinic staff are qualified to assist with family planning, tuberculosis, children’s health and more, and there is also a pharmacy on site.

Despite these trying times for healthcare workers, spirits are high. Sr Myaka said members of staff always looked forward to assisting residents where they can.
