Municipalities make provisions for the homeless amid lockdown

Provisions have been put in place to assist homeless residents during the lockdown.

The Umzinyathi District Municipality (UDM), together with Endumeni Municipality and the Department of Social Development (DSD), has opened its hearts and doors to the less fortunate.

Approximately 42 homeless people are being sheltered at the Sibongile Hall, during the 21-day national lockdown.

Officials drop off blankets for the homeless to use.

UDM Mayor – Petros Ngubane, Endumeni Mayor – Sduduzo Mdluli, the DSD’s Jabu Madlabane and members of the Dundee SAPS and the municipality’s Disaster Management Department, partnered to set the shelter up. Food is being supplied to the homeless by DSD.
