Sarel Cilliers ‘Blue Lions’ pounce at Voortrekker sports day

Despite the suffocating heat, the Lions managed to play all its games with a true 'never surrender' attitude.

Despite the suffocating heat, the Lions managed to play all its games with a true ‘never surrender’ attitude. The u-14 and u-15 rugby teams beat Greytown High comfortably with scores of 39-0 and 44-10 respectively.

Sarel’s u-16 team beat Kuswag from Amanzimtoti 50-0, in an intense and fast-paced game. The second team played against Linpark in a tough game, which tested the team to its limit. Unfortunately, the team went down 19-10.

The u-16 girls took part in the Voortrekker hockey festival, where they were undefeated in all six of their matches, winning four games and drawing in the remaining two. Lailla Neymbe was the best player throughout the matches, scoring a total of seven goals – well done!

The first netball team played its hearts out at Voortrekker, winning two, losing one and drawing one. Sarel Cilliers thanked all the coaches and congratulated all the teams for doing a good job in keeping the Blue Lions’ flag high.

Redenaars kompetisie: Dit sit nie in enige mens se broek om voor mense ‘n toespraak te lewer nie. Sarel Cilliers het Donderdag aan die E.G Jansen-Redenaars kompetisie te Amanzimtoti deelgeneem.

Die kompetisie was taai maar redenaars, Charne Stroop, Andre Niemann, Dian Bierbaum en Jannes Erasmus, het Sarel Cilliers se naam hoog gehou. Sterkte met al die ander redenaarskometisies wat voorlê.

Annual Winter Hockey Festival in Eshowe: The Sarel Cilliers first team hockey went to Eshowe on March 14 to take part in the annual winter festival. With tough competition ahead, the boys played brilliantly, winning three games and drawing just one. The Sarel hockey boys scored a magnificent total of 10 goals throughout the tournament.

They landed a spot in the final against Vryheid High School, and with the intense heat, the 30-minute game felt like a mountain to climb. Despite this, the boys played with the ‘never surrender’ attitude and overcame all obstacles to win the tournament for a second time, with a score of 1-0.

The boys have done Sarel proud and played with discipline and fantastic sportsmanship.

Sarel thanked Eshowe High School for a well-organised tournament.
