Dannhauser Primary and K2U solve the maths crisis

Using what they learned, the overall school marks went up by 30 per cent in 10 months.

Dannhauser Primary School, under the leadership of principal Bongekile Makhoba, is on its way to achieving top marks in mathematics.

For the past year, Greg Shapiro of K2U Learning Systems, trained all the teachers in the unique and alternative ways of teaching foundational mathematics. Using what they learned, combined with their commitment to applying and studying the strategies, the overall school marks went up by 30 per cent in 10 months.

The school is thrilled with the results and trusts they will continue to see further improvements this year, as they learn and grow in these skills and methodologies.

“I believe Dannhauser Primary School has set a precedent for all other primary schools to follow. It has shown it is very possible to overcome the maths crisis with right teaching and hard work. This is exactly the intervention our country needs, to ensure our children are able to compete with the demands of the fourth industrial revolution,” said Mr Shapiro.

“We are very grateful for the teaching we received from Greg Shapiro and the K2U team, and I am very proud of my teachers. I definitely recommend every primary school considers using K2U, to help them develop the maths teaching skills that has helped us achieve such a large increase in our overall maths marks,” said Mrs Makhoba.
