Squash league boasts another heated week

The week's highlight saw Zhane Qwabe beat Sifiso Kunene in an epic battle for second place on the ladder.

Yet another week of exciting games has come and gone on the squash courts.

The scoreboard is as follows:

Team 6 (Rudi Dorfling, Eugene Corbitt, Jacques Corbitt, Ben Strydom, Eugene Jnr) is still in the lead with 70 points, followed by Team 4 (Zhane Qwabe, John Flanagan, Craig Owen, Venesse Burns and Ronnie Mulligan) with 59 points. Team 1 and Team 7 are tied for third on 58 points.

Every league game is automatically seen as a ladder challenge game, and the club congratulates the following people for effectively climbing that ladder and bettering their position in the club: Eugene Corbitt played against Nozipho Hadebe and narrowly beat her 3-2. He went from being ranked number 18 to number 12 in the club.

The following games were also five setters, resulting in ladder changes:

In round three, changes were as follows: Kevern Mattison versus Andre Karsten 3-2 – Kevern moved from 17th to 15th on the ladder. Mark Nero vs Marelie Kelbrick 4-1 – Mark moved from 19th to 10th. Natasha du Plessis vs Sunil Bhartu 3-2 – Natasha moved from 28th to 24th. Klaas de Jager vs Carla Mare 5-0 – Klaas moved from 41st to 36th.

The highlight of the week was when Zhane Qwabe beat Sifiso Kunene in an epic battle for the second place on the ladder. This great win moved him from number 4 to number 2.

In round four, changes were as follows: Weon du Plooy vs Kevern Mattison 4-1 – Weon moved from 17th to 15th on the ladder. Craig Owen vs Sunil Bhartu 5-0 – Craig moved from 27th to 25th.

Residents are invited to visit the squash courts every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening from 5.30pm.
