KZN Premier, Umzinyathi Mayor among VIPs evacuated from collapsed marquee

No injuries were reported despite a strong gust of wind caused the structure to collapse.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala, Umzinyathi District Mayor, Petros Ngubane and KZN MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Bongi Sithole-Moloi were among dignitaries who had to be evacuated from a marquee which collapsed this afternoon, at the Dundee Research Station on the Nquthu road.

SAPS officials assisted in ensuring those in the huge tent were taken to safety, after a strong gust of wind caused the structure to collapse. Authorities said no injuries were reported.

The Premier and others had gathered for a KZN Youth in Agriculture indaba. Many young people were invited to the indaba, which attracted hundreds of guests.

Morning Live on SABC 2 crossed live to the indaba earlier today, where Premier Zikalala outlined the importance of using agriculture to help create jobs and wealth in KZN.

His address was entitled ‘KZN Youth in Agriculture: A Radical Approach towards Job Creation in the Province’.
