10 best excuses for going late to work

People come to work late for many reasons, some more serious than others, such as a family emergency, a medical reason or a personal reason.

Have you used any of the mentioned excuses before… Let us know

Have you ever been late for work? What reason did you give to your superior? Well, people come to work late for many reasons, some more serious than others, such as a family emergency, a medical reason or a personal reason. Whatever your reason might be, here are 10 best excuses for coming to work late.

The alarm didn’t ring:

Most people depend on their cell phone alarm’s to wake them up every morning. Forgetting to set the alarm on or being unable to set it on for some reason on your mobile phone might cause it not to ring at all. I personally have experienced such where my alarm just didn’t go off and I woke up an hour late. That excuse does not work because the Boss said how come the car guard is up and at his post and he does not even  have a cellphone…

Fighting against traffic:

Behind stuck behind a slow car can be very annoying especially if you are already running late. Peak hours traffic is the worst in the mornings, and having to be stuck make behind a slow moving car can make one come to work even later. We have not really get that excuse around here – except of course when the Glencoe/Dundee is closed for repairs and then everyone is late…

No water:

With the recent drought, this has definitely become a known excuse, having to wake up with no water is not only stressful but can also make one very late. No bath water, no drinking water… having no water at all can even make one not go to work. I have personally used this excuse before and it did not work …

No money for transport

Having no money for transport can make you very late and at times one can even end up not going to work because of this. Having to ask your family members for money in the morning is never a good idea.

Being involved in a car accident:

This is a valid excuse especially if you were hurt or have an injury. You need to make sure before coming into work that you are fit to work that day. If you are a journalist, not taking a photo of the accident you have been is akin to a war crime…

Oversleeping:

Who has never overslept before? We are all victims of this excuse when we just don’t have a valid reason but an honest one of oversleeping. I have also fallen victim of this excuse. It also does not work… trust me…

Not feeling well:

Waking up feeling dizzy or nauseous maybe one of the reasons you decide to sleep for 30 more minutes with the hope that the sickly feeling would go away. Having a babalaas does not qualify.

Weather conditions:

Cold mornings and rainy mornings make it difficult to not only come out of bed but to also leave the house especially if you are a commuter. Such weather conditions can cause one to be late. So get up earlier than normal…

Load shedding:

Having no electricity can ruin anyone’s morning, having to have a cold shower or even having to boil water with firewood can make one late. One has to not only just light the wood but look for wood first and some of us are not that lucky to even find firewood lying around our yards. The boss does not buy it. Come to the office, he says, there is water and electricity here.  I just washed at work, why can’t you…

Stopped at a roadblock:

Being stopped at a roadblock can make one late as traffic cops inspect the roadworthiness of your vehicle and your license. This is a pretty valid one and if you are a journalist you can even say, yes, I am late but I was taking photos at the roadblock and got a story from the cops…
