Firemen battle fierce blaze in Avon Industrial

Firemen are currently battling against a fierce blaze, fanned by strong wind, in the Avon Industrial area.

Columns of black smoke are billowing up from a waste paper recycling plant. Witnesses said the adjacent veld caught fire and flames had spread rapidly to the stacks of waste paper at the premises. A front end loader has been deployed to shift the remaining waste paper stacks, in a bid to minimise further damage.

No one has been reported injured.
