Scholar transporters and Government forge agreement

Endumeni Mayor, Sduduzo Mdluli also pledged his support to the scholar transport initiative.

A school transport meeting was held at the Battlefields Country Lodge recently, where different stakeholders stressed the importance of life-long learning.

At this meeting, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) and scholar transport leadership from the Umzinyathi region agreed to work as a team to initiate effective initiatives to create capacity building for drivers and transport owners.

Leaders from SAPS and the Road Traffic Inspectorate also agreed to enforce lawful measures for the safety of scholars. Representatives from the Department of Social Development would also assist with screening scholar transport drivers before they were permitted to be a part of the industry.

Endumeni Mayor, Sduduzo Mdluli, also pledged his support to the scholar transport initiative.

He praised the Dundee Taxi Association (DTA) for keeping commuters safe at all costs: “I would like to commend the DTA chairperson, Mr Mthembu, for his leadership strategies which encourage peace, oneness, and ubuntu in the taxi industry. He maintains a dignified taxi industry in our area.”
