Golfers recall memories of a legend

The Club thanks Jurie Weber and family, as well as the club ladies for the sponsorship.

A golfing legend was recalled on a chilly Friday when the annual ‘Oom Ockies se Bokkies Golf Day’ marked Women’s Day.

34 players turned out on Friday to remember club legend, Oom Ockie Weber, who passed on some years ago. He is fondly remembered for his Women’s Day Golf Day and the tradition continues still.

Braving the cold and light rain was Rob Streak, who won the day on a score 3 better than his handicap. Cyril Makhwanazi was 2nd. It was also a fun day with many of the ladies dressed in pink. The club thanks Jurie Weber and family, as well as the club ladies for the sponsorship.

Saturday was a sponsored competition played by 31 players in the form of a 4 Ball Better Ball scramble drive. Coming out on tops was the pairing of Lionel Shaw and Lorein de Wit on 49 points, while Billy Francis and Coenie Munro were 2nd on 49. 3rd was M Mthethwa and M Sithole on 47 points.

“Thank you to the sponsor who would like to remain anonymous.”

Upcoming fixtures: The Dave’s Wednesday Competition has been cancelled due to the AGM on August 14. The meeting will start promptly at 6pm.

Lorein won the lucky draw by guessing the correct number of onions, in Friday’s draw. Lionel Shawe, Jacque La Grange, Naomi van Huysteen, Tia Kruger and Liana Prinsloo all celebrated her good Women’s Day fortune.
