Dundee 2 Dundee journey changes route because of red tape

"We had two wonderful people try absolutely everything and nearly managed to get the Beast onto a boat to Cabinda but they were worried that it would fall off in rough seas. "

Red-tape and surly Congo bureaucrats have scuppered Kevin and Donna Krummeck’s epic Dundee 2 Dundee overland trip.
The Krummecks set off from Dundee two weeks ago on their way to Dundee, Scotland, (where Donna was born – Kevin was born in our Dundee) in their red Landrover they call the Beast.
After setting off from Dundee, they went through Botswana, Namibia and Angola but met resistance when trying to enter Congo.

Dundee to Dundee – couple plan epic trip

Kevin said they camped for three days on a beach at Cabo Ledo in Angola while trying to make arrangements with the authorities to enter Congo.
“We had two wonderful people try absolutely everything and nearly managed to get the Beast onto a boat to Cabinda but they were worried that it would fall off in rough seas.
“We then nearly managed a 24-hour pass to get through the DRC (Congo) to Cabinda (which is in Angolan territory but needs access from the sea or through the DRC), which also, unfortunately, didn’t materialise.”

Kevin Krummeck enjoyed the tranquil northern Angolan countryside while waiting for permission to enter the Congo. DRC.
After waiting at another beach they found that the Congolese embassy in Angola refused to give visas of any type to any foreigners travelling from Angola to the DRC.
“Even the SA Embassy in Angola are stunned by this decision and attitude and after another session with them today, the DRC embassy literally closed the window in our face and asked security to remove us, after telling them that we have international newspapers following our trip. He said he does not care and the DRC does not need tourists,” Kevin told the Courier.

So their plan now is to spend 2-3 months in Namibia, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Botswana before heading back to South Africa for the birth of their first grandchild and their son’s wedding in August.
Then they will head off again possibly via the East Coast of Africa this time to finally make it to Mother Dundee. “But we will never give up or surrender!” He thanked Courier readers for their support and will be visiting again before their second trip.
