Service delivery plans discussed by municipality

Residents were happy to hear that they can expect good services in the upcoming year

Alfred Duma Local Municipality held a community engagement with the residents of KwaJwili and Waaihoek (Ward 31) recently, during which Mayor Zama Sibisi addressed the service delivery plans for the 2023/24 financial year. He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Sizwe Simelane, Ward Cllr Nzuza, Cllr Mbhense, Cllr Madondo and Cllr Xaba.

Addressing the residents, Mayor Sibisi tabled the list of projects to be implemented by the municipality in Ward 31. He first told parents about the municipality’s programme to help learners with registration fees at institutions of higher education. “We know that the budget we have is limited and cannot meet the number of learners who passed matric, hence we are assisting learners from highly disadvantaged families. Next year, we are looking to issue 200 registration fees, to be allocated to Grade 12 learners.”

The following was also among the items on the mayor’s service delivery list for Ward 31: an electrification programme for Mabhekazi; R9 million invested to construct and maintain roads infrastructure within the ward; and R27 million of the budget set aside to procure new plant machinery to fast-track service delivery for all wards.

The local municipality has taken measures to consult with the relevant stakeholders and has requested that the rights be given to the local municipality to provide water to the Ladysmith community. The mayor, accompanied by councillors, then proceeded to the Waaihoek Community Hall to introduce the contractor that is set to finalise the construction of the hall.
