Suspected rapists, burglars and drug peddlers were arrested over the weekend

Suspected rapists, burglars and drug peddlers were arrested over the weekend as police from the Uthukela District held ‘High Density Disruptive Operations’ in the areas of Loskop, Estcourt and Weenen.

The operations yielded success, as 13 people were arrested and three detained for not being in possession of valid documentation.

In Loskop, six people between the age of 20 and 39 were arrested.

“They were arrested for offences ranging from dealing in liquor without a licence to business burglary,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

During searches of vehicles, premises and people, police recovered a large amount of alcohol and dagga. In Weenen and Estcourt, seven people were arrested for offences including rape, robbery and possession of drugs.

Dagga recovered in Estcourt.

“A pistol was recovered during the arrest of suspects who were sought in a case of rape and robbery, which occurred during the latter part of May 2023 in Weenen,” explained Khan.

All the arrested suspects were expected to appear in court on Monday, facing various charges relating to the offences they are accused of committing.
